Yoga is about becoming more flexible, it’s also about balancing and control, but most importantly, it's about understanding how your body moves. All of these things help you perform any activity or task because once you have a better idea of how your body operates you can use it to its full potential.
Just like our body, our mind needs to be stretched, worked out, and taken care of. With yoga we can see how our mind processes things. Understanding our senses, logic, and intelligence without getting our emotions involved. Our brains are always working. Slowing them down allows us to have more control on what to focus on.
Depression, doesn’t that word send shivers down your spine? We’ve all been there, in fact it’s something I still battle with from time to time. What yoga has brought me through meditation, focus and mindfulness, is a heightened awareness and understanding of being present for each and every moment. We run our minds on auto pilot for a majority of our lives, but with yoga you can take the wheel again. Creating more joy, better reflexes, and less time spent being bummed out.
I love to move. Sports, exercise, and other physical activities are what I enjoy doing the most. When moving to Redondo Beach, I couldn’t decide what my next activity would be so I tried yoga to stay in shape while deciding my next move.
What I discovered about yoga, is after making it a consistent part of my daily routine it made everything I did easier. All of my favorite activities, running, dancing, cycling, spike ball, surfing, weight lifting, you name it, just got easier. I became more alert and focused, catching things that were falling before they hit the ground. I was better at remembering peoples names and what it was I went to the grocery store for. I also noticed I was in better spirits. I was smiling and laughing more. I was hooked. I got my certification in 2015 and I haven’t looked back. I still love to do all of my other activities but with yoga I’m ready for anything and everything.
